Wing commander (After installation)

I've installed Wing Commander 1 onto my pc and it works but after i close the game and try to loading it again it states "insert disk 17" any advice on how to load WC1
 
How are you playing this? What operating system? Is this in DOSBox, and did you follow the instructions in our tech support section? Is this a floppy disk version or CD? Where are you going to run the game?
 
It is on windows Xp Home edition and it is the floppy disk version and it saved into my (c) drive hard disk. Used dosbox v0.70 and i followed the instructions on the tech support section and it plays when i close it however and try to load it again it states insert disk 17

I have the same problem here, except mine is a CD version (its a dual game Origin's disk that includes Ultima 6)

So what happens is pretty much exactly as the previous poster stated;
I copied the files to hard drive on C, installed Dosbox. I open dos box, run WC.exe, and it tells me to insert disc 17.

I've only got one disc!

Now, I have been able to actually run the WC.exe file from the CD itself, but the instant I get into combat the game moves at lightspeed and I'm dead in a quick flash of stars and beams. Thus, I need Dosboxes ability to slow the game down a bit, but as stated, it won't run through dosbox.

Please help, I love this game and really want to play it again!
 
Have you run install.exe yet? Are the files you copied over still set to read-only properties?
 
Hmm.
Ok, so I ran the install exe from the hard drive folder. Went through the normal video and sound settings, and hit y to confirm the configuration. Instantly, the window closes and the dosbox window comes up with "Installation Aborted".

Tried running the game exe from dosbox, still the 'Insert Disc 17'...
