Wing Commander 3 Sound and Music for Windows XP

Hello everyone. I just wanted some on trying to get WC3 running properly on my machine.

Whenever I install the game, I can only seem to run the music by picking the first Roland option. It runs ok, but I think I could do better. However, whenever I try to pick an option for the Digital Sound Effects, and I choose Soundblaster/Compatible, I get distorted and choppy sounds. I have turned off the hardware accelaration within the sound options on the control panel as I needed to do that to play WC: Prophecy.

I loaded up the game with the settings that I had chosen and was able to play the game, however, the sound was still choppy, but the music, it seems was ok, except for a few static sounds.
If anyone would be able to help me, I would very much appreciate it. It has been only recently that I remembered that I could play these old games on my computer - Im really anxious to do so.

My system specs are these

Windows Xp 3.6 gigaherzt
563 ram
Sound Blaster Live

Im not sure if those are the right specs to list when concerning this, but I will list them anyway. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Same Problem

I have exactly the same problem...

Win XP, 1,4 GHz, 768RAM, Sounblaster 128 PCI

When I completely turn off Sound FX the Game works fine!

I dont want to have to turn the sound fx of.

Anyhow, I had an idea. Wouldnt just going out and buying one of those old sound blaster cards fix the problem, I mean, I have seen several of them in the stores around my area.

If you can tell how to fit an ISA card into a PCI slot or if you can find a recent motherboard that still has ISA a lot of people would be pleased to use that solution.

VDM Sound

Try "VDM Sound" is emulates a dos Environment including Sound and JOYSTICK and the tool is easy to use. But on my System the game tell´s me that i have not enough "FILES" available. I addet "FILES=40" in the Config.sys and used it in the VDM Sound options but the game does not start.

Please excuse my poor english.

USB Joystick???

I have my sound settings so that I can tolerate it and play the game. My one problem is getting my joystick to work. It's USB and when I go to the in-game joystick calibration, nothing registers from the joystick. It works fine in control panel and on other games.
