Wing Commander 3 problem

Hello there. First time poster but long time player of the series.

My problem comes from when I try to alt-tab out of the game. Instead of returning to the desktop completely, only the task bar is left will the game window covers the rest of the screen and everything else is left hidden behind it.

Could someone offer some insight on how to get around this?
 
Well, which version are you using? Dos, Win native, KS edition, with or without ddhack?
Which OS (I'm assuming windows, which version?)
 
I see what you mean, if you hold down alt and slowly switch through any current apps you have running it will show those until you release alt. (only with aero) I assume the display priority is overriding other apps kind of like when you tell vlc to always display on top.

Well I did manage to find a solution for it. Simply put the game in windowed mode and that resolves the mess. Turn it back to full screen when I go back into the game.

But I have another problem as well. The arrow keys don't respond when I try to fly a fighter.
 
Are you set to use keyboard controls in the options screen (alt-o in flight)? The arrow keys won't respond if you're on mouse or joystick control.

Haven't checked that as I didn't know how. Will look now.
