wierd error message for WCP and IV

every time I try to play WCP, WCSO, or WC IV I get some stupid error stating that the exe file has created an error in windows. I have used the patches for running in Win2k without any sucess. Also tried reinstalling the games, even got the error message on a clean install on a reformatted HD. Anyone else get this before? any suggestions? my sys specs are as follows:

OS: windows 2000 Pro ( 5.0, build 2195)
BIOS: Phoenix-Award BIOS v 6.00PGN
Processor: AMD Athlon 2400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz
Memory: 384 MB RAM
Page file: 191MB used, 730MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX with TV Out (4X AGP)
HD: Western Digital 200gig HD 7200 rpm

It tells me that "WCIV.exe has caused a problem with Windows. An error log is being created. This Program will now exit." I get the same message for Wing Commander Prophecy and Secret Ops as well.

wcp under win2k

Which service pack? I have win2kpro sp4 and a g4ti4800 and can run wcp gold. just got a glide wrapper (glide to opengl) working *(See http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/ ) since my voodoo2 refuses to coexist with nvidia. I was able to run using the app compatibility setting (win98) and later with the win2k patch. also, don't for get the glide patch.
