what kind of software that isn't provided in the windows operating system do i need to run the WCA episodes.

DivX 5.11, I believe you can get it from divx-digest.com

The "Free" version (under the DivX tab) is below the table of the "pay" versions of DivX. (Just in case you miss it - it's somewhat deceptive.)

You also need some sort of MP3 audio codec (if you want to hear the sound) which was part of DIVX3.11, but was not part of later ones. Any other MP3 codec will work as well.

I believe HQ WCA was done with DivX 5. http://download.divx.com/divx/DivX511.exe is a direct link to the free, not ad-supported version.
