WCS:CL Mod Updates (UPDATED 11-20-03)

Just saw your list of custom ships and I think we could do a little change here.

Venture class MK II corvette
-> I don't know what cou wanted to change here, but I think useing the model we allready have would be good, cause it looks quite close to the original, but is also an update...what I think the MK II is refering to.

Vulture class Frigate
-> In WC3 there is the Caernaven...not the best ship, but it could be used...I can also think of many modificated Caernavens when you want that, but the Caernaven is quite a good anti-fightership so I would keep it.

Cortez Class Light Cruiser
-> There we have allready a light cruiser that look quite good and we also got it from a WC novel. So you wouldn't have to do some extra work here.

Garrison Class Battlecruiser
-> Well we don't see any battlecruisers in WC till prophecy where I personly classify the Plunket not as cruiser more an battlecruiser or artillary cruiser...at least it would be a heavy cruiser.
For anything else I would use the Vesuvius as Battlecruiser...it fits quite good in that roll...in two way...it has the firepower and the capability of carrying fighters.
That is nearly the same as the Battlecruiser do in HW2.

I think this could be a solution we all can live with...we have custom ships like Venture MK II and Light Cruiser, but it would be close enough to the originals to keep everyone happy.

@Psych: Illusion is also a form of education ^_^

@Starsaint: Could you post some data about the custom ships or pics so that we could get a better idea of what that ship would look like.
 
Venture MK 2 is just the same ship from WC1 with upgraded engines and weapons

Vulture is a older ship designed around taking on destroyers than fighters(battle Frigate/Pickett Ship)
it has 2 light torp launchers, 2 Light Antimatter guns, 10 Laser turrets

Cortez no specifics on it really only have the outer hull done right now, its about the size of the tallahassee but abit more robust

garrison however is a model that may or maynot be used(many many a guns)(aka fly battlewagon) 2 heavy torp launchers 8 heavy guns, 22 laser turrets, 16 missle batteries, 16 fighters

those are inital setups not finals...

I'm sure we all care about how you personly classify ships. And I'm sure your personl classifications are the standard to be followed by all.

Seams as you got me wrong Eder...I just wanted to show that I think the Plunket would be a good replacement for the HW2 Battlecruiser class, not that my classifications has something to do with official one of WC.

If by "everyone" you mean "hardly anyone", then yes. I'm sure all WC fans feel shivers down their spines when they see the classical words "<insert fanboy's next victim ship class> Mk II" on the plans for a mod or fanfic.

From what I heard the HW2 mod will be placed into WCP and after timeline. So there is a possibilty that Confed would build a new Venture class.

Beside that useing the Vesuvius to replace the HW2 Battlecruiser is a quite logical choise. (Never said that the Vesuivius is a Battlecruiser)

Don't you think that the ships would be a little bit overpowered? You should try to keep it close to the know statistics.
 
You got that wrong Eder. Lars just suggested that the Vesuvius should occupy the battlecruiser slot in HW. He didn't mean to reclassify it; it's just likethat that it would be rather close to what the battlecruiser in HW is, or something like that.

lets get something straight...

the original slots of the game do not matter, the slots are what you set the ship as

example

capships of the original(HW1)
Destroyer
Missle destroyer
Heavy Cruiser
Carrier
and you had to replace those ship slots for ships or not use them at all(could not add)

capships in hw2
Destroyer
Battlecruiser
Carrier
Shipyard
that doesn't matter wcs:CL could be the following

Destroyer - Destroyer
Light Cruiser - Custom ship
Cruiser - Tallahassee
Heavy Cruiser
Battlecruiser
Battleship

Carrier - Ranger
Fleet Carrier
Super Carrier
Mega Carrier

see where i'm getting at
so the slot/building limitations of HW1 do not have any burden what so ever on HW2

and about the Multiple Shipyards
look at the Battlecruiser in HW2(it can only build components, yet it could build fighters if the coding was added(proven by a guy on the Relic Boards a while back))

Matter affact Yes, but last thing i want to do is turn it into a WC version of Rise of Nations on a HW2 game engine.

besides maps are too small (even the largest) for the LONG drawn out war that would be needed to get up to the WCP era of WC

i guess i could do it all together in a lineage style
WC1, then Wc2, then 3, then 4, then prophecy
and in multiplayer it would be set up as

this is already a complex and ambitious plan as is, so that would be only vialable for the very final release of Confederation Legacy (LONG Time Off)
 
well star saint,... as long as you save us from freaky superweapon like beheemoth or temblor bomb, everything is fine!
as you told me on icq, you prefer the classic fights with guns, missiles and torpedos, too :)
i did not even like that sivar from secret missions (wc1)
if theres no other choice, take ships from the movie,...
but i would love the mod more, if i see ships from the game,... i dont like the movie at all

why had chris roberst to invent his idea new?

UHMMM i think yall are misunderstanding me with the behemoth.
The Behemoth would be like the Dreadnaught, Sajuuk, or Population Transports from the single player game, it'd be a SP only object
and the Behemoth would be true too the original Behemoth(it wouldn't be at full strength, and it'd be killed before it really did any damage :D )

as for the tembler bomb i have no idea how we are going to implement that(anti-planet weapon)
i guess it'd be one of those run for the attack point <insert custcene of bombing run and planet blowing up>

and yes i'm a fan of big big battles that look nice and purty with guns-a-flash'n and ships a exploding, also speaking of explosions(debris will be more abundant than what it was with regular HW2)(like almost the whole ship abundant :D )

no,.. you miss understood me,... i know that the behemoth could not destroy a planet in hw2, but i mean that kind of idea sucked,... at the point i saw that stupid big something i thought " wing commander is going star wars, or what?!?!"
i think its enough when there is one famous sci-fi story,...
o.k. mark hamill played luke skywalker and that was his famoust role,.. but thats another question and i never had the feeling in whole the game that he is luke skywalker in wc3, wc4 or wc5
and he is a much better christopher blair than freddy prince jr.

by the way,... the story of the pilgrims suck, too

but to come back to the topic,... could you please put the beam weapons completley out, so you must not use a ship like behemoth?
 
i never actually intended to give the behemoth any weapons other than the anti-fighter weapons you saw it fire ingame, because it got scragged before it could ever fire.

and no i never planned on having beam weapons

I know the correct # of Confederation-class warships built, but since my opinion means . . . how you put it? . . . an old penny to you, then I'll rather not waste my time :(

i have much trust in your work, but please save us from behemoth! i dont like that ship,... use something else, i think the guys here have good ideas :)

Perhaps I should add this is going to be a Wing Commander game, not a let's-make-it-this-way-fan-project. You do not have to like the Behemoth, I may hate the color choice of BW ships (I would rather use green and not red color), but it is neither up to me nor to you, nor to anyone else.

I continue to be amazed by how few people understand what the word 'obviously' means.

A 'mark' (Fralthi II, Dralthi IV, etc.) in the Wing Commander universe seems to refer to an entirely new spaceframe - a 'Venture II' would be an entirely new capital ship class called Venture. An uprated Venture would simply get a new alphabet designation (you might refer to it as the 'Venture-B', if you were so inclined).

Yeah, Wing Commander shouldn't have any unique human factions. (To explain - the 'Pilgrims' are the Border Worlds with a different name. The little guys Confed subjigates. Heck, until Draft 2 of the movie Blair was a 'Border Worlder' instead of a 'Pilgrim'.)

Six Confederation-class ships were built. We know that all were destroyed by the start of WC3 - but the only one we know the specific history regarding is the Concordia (it's likely that at least one other was destroyed by a malfunctioning PTC).
