WCS: Asteroids/Mines too fast?

Just found that my friend had Kilrathi Saga sitting on his shelf.

I am playing WC1 and everything seems a little faster than I first remember it (maybe just old now), but mines and asteroids seem to be super fast. I slow down to 40-50, but they still ram me.

Just wondering if it's me, or did I forget a trick?
 
The game is fast, but shoudn´t be unplayable. Try reducing the frame rate (I don´t recall the correct keys). That should do it.
 
There is a trick with the mines, though. Just hit your afterburners.

With the asteroids, stay between 220 and 300 and you should be fine.
 
Recommended speed for asteroids is supposed to be 250 kps. Mines are attracted to you, so hit the afterburners in mine fields.
