WCP Problem with W2k

Hey everyone,

great work with this page! Since I found it I started again playing WCP. Now, I got a little problem I just cannot solve.

The facts:

1) Installed WCP normally (installion correct, no file errors)
2) Installed "Movie Fix" from your FILES section on the page
3) Began playing, worked everything fine...just to the end of CD1

Problem:

When finishing the last mission (think its Mission no. 10) on CD 1, it says AFTER completing it " PLease insert CD2" - well I do as it commands and get all the time an error that WCP cant find a file.

What I tried:

I thought maybe the CD would have a scratch, cleaned it, checked it - no scratches at all. Reinserted it, played mission again, changed CD to CD no 2 and BANG - again the error...this time another file. Its all the time the same.

My System:

AMD Athlon XP 2800+
ASUS GeForce FX 5700 256MB RAM
768MB RAM
Soundblaster LIVE! Value
40x CD-Burner (LG 8160B)
8x DVD Toshiba

Windows 2000

All drivers are up-to-date.

Any suggestions? Would desperatly like to go on with playing the game :))

Thanks for ur help and best wishes,

Cpt. Stormwind,

I'd try reinstalling without the movie fix and see if that changes anything.

Have you tried mounting all CD's as ISO images through deamon tools?

Also, there are fixes to get WC3 running listed on this forum. just search for it.

I am talking of Wing Commander Prophecy, not WC 3 pal :)

Reinstall did not help, already tried that.

Regarding the hint with mounting the CDs - I do have the originals and I dont know if Nero makes an image completely WITH copy protection...

To enable compatibility mode in win2k:

1. Make sure you are running SP4 with the latest version of everything (drivers and directx).
2. If you have not yet, run this command in start > run: regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll
3. Create a shortcut to the file you want to run
4. Bring up the shortcut's properties (right-click menu) and enable Windows 95 compatibility mode (which will now be enabled from the above step)
5. Run the program *using the shortcut*

So you need an updated 2K, you have to turn on compatibility mode via command line entry, and then you can only enable compatibility mode via a shortcut link.

Alternately, this patch solves *some* problems with WC3, KS in win2000: http://download.wcnews.com/files/wing3/wc3win2kfix.zip

Ok...since it seems you guys did not understand me:

i am talking of:

WING COMMANDER PROPHECY

and NOT, I repeat N-O-T

Wing Commander 3

Back to your hints regarding command line. I'll try that one 2morrow, thanks.

My Win2k is with SP4 and latest drivers, yes.

Yeah, I heard you the first time. I must have had it on the brain for some reason. The compatability mode stuff still stands though whether its wc3 or WCP.

I also suggest trying to reinstall it without the movie skip patch first and see if it runs. Also you could try this patch (the one I meant to link to last time) :http://download.wcnews.com/files/wcp/prophecy_win2k.zip.

If after it's running the movies still skip as if in fast forward, either try adjusting the hardware acceleration settings or try the movie skip patch again.
