WCP: Crashes when trying to play a mission

Okay... I go and I click on the Breifing Room to play a mission [First mission on CD3 "G'mar 530.4: Operation: Ambush"]. It goes through the short video clip. Then it goes to the ICIS. Right when that starts, it crashes and a box pops up saying:

"Iff::Iff open file 'audio\speech\04060000.iff' not found and not optional"

ALRIGHTY, so what is it? I think that it is a missing file somewhere, but I have no clue what I can and should do.

If there is anyone that can help me, I would appreciate it. THANKS!

I assume WCP is looking for that file - it's in one of the TRE files. Is it possible your CD is scratched? Also, what OS are you using?

Well... from what I can see there is a small scratch on the very outside of the CD. That's funny, seeing as the only times I have used that CD is the times I have installed the game. I may have had the game for about a year, but I have never played far enough to use CD 3. Anyway, to answer your other question the op system on my computer is ME. I don't really know what difference that makes, but I guess it could. I WILL be very angry if that tiny scratch prevents me from finishing the game.

Hope this helps.

Does that error always occur?

Wait, using my ultra-spiffy (not) TRE Index, I found what that file is. It's just the ICIS briefing to G'mar 530.4: Operation: Ambush
Long-range sensors have detected an alien comm relay station in this system which is capable of broadcasting as far as the Kilrah System.
Try copying SPEECH3.TRE from the CD to your hard drive, just to test if your CD-ROM can read it properly.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!:D

I prolly would have never thought of that myself. There is two possiblities of what I think happened. 1) Since I did a full install, that particular file could have corrupted on the install, or 2) seeing as how I installed the game in May and haven't touched it since then that file could have just detereorated/corrupted on its own.

I do, however, believe the first one more because of another game. My brother installed a game and a file copies right sometimes or it doesn't.

ANYWAY, I can't thank you enough.

P.S. I prolly could have asked my brother and he may have said the same thing, but there are times where I like to do things w/o his help.;)

Sounds like a bad CD-ROM drive. So you recopied the TRE file and it works now? I'm sure even the full install needs to use the CD for movies, but of course, it's a speech file which is the problem this time.
