WCP and a new X-52

Apologies if this is in a FAQ somewhere, I must have missed it, and I haven't been a longtime lurker here, so I'm not familiar with what comes up here on a regular basis. To my credit, I have used the search function ^.^

After a long hiatus from WC, I want to play Prophecy, so I went out and bought a new joystick. Splurged and got one of Saitek's new X-52 flight control systems with a separate throttle stick.

Problem: All the keys are programmable. There's no default WCP profile--and I can't seem to make a profile that seems comfortable to me.

Does anybody else have this stick and a profile that works well?

There's 2 programmable buttons on the throttle stick; I use one for afterburn and one for autopilot. I don't use the rotation switches, mouse wheel scroll, or the POV hat on the throttle stick because I can't make the bloody things work. (The POV hat is in a trigger-like positions, so I tried to map all 4 POV directions to the enter key. I get lock, hit the POV hat...no missile. Try all 4 directions, no missile. Bug pops up behind me and blows me all to hell while I'm fighting with the controls)

For now I have lock, select closest target, and missile buttons on the flight stick, with next and prev targets mapped to the second POV hat on the stick. The "safety" switch is for the Wasp booster pack since I don't want to frig with flipping that thing up and down all the bloody time...nor would I want to trigger that sucker by accident.

Prophecy's all I need a profile for, that profile should work for all the other WC games.

I haven't really heard of any Wing Commander fans picking up the X-52. Maybe there's a forum for owners that has something.

I just got the X52 as a gift. I know some others on these forums have this joystick. Has anyone made a good profile that they can share? Otherwise, I'd hate to have to re-invent the wheel given all the different buttons. I searched on the Saitek site and forums, but they don't have a profile for the Wing Commander games (particularly Prophecy, Secret Ops, and Standoff are what I'm looking for).

I have one, it's not super great or anything, but it's entirely hands free operation for WCSO/P/Standoff/UE.

The problem is, the file exceeds the forum limits of 100 KB, so I'm not sure how to upload it to you unless I use a site like rapidshare.

Thanks Jason! I sent you a private message and an email. If anyone has a control setup they think is good and might be better for the X52, let us know.

OKAY!

I figured out how to circumvent all the restrictions on uploading a file. The profile is now attached to the post.

But you're going to have to jump through some hoops to use it:

1) Change the file extension from .txt to .zip
2) Extract the .dat file from the ZIP archive
3) Drop the .dat file into your Saitek installation directory (alongside your other profiles).

This should let you use it just fine, it worked for me moving it between my laptop and my desktop, no sweat.

Don't you run a Solsector site? Why don't you put it there? For everyone else, places like Geocities are still around. Everyone should have access to a webserver for various things. I think the internet from ten years ago would be embarassed that nobody has any personal webspace to stick things anymore.
