WCIV Joystick trouble

I'm using a Wingman Force 3D joystick, and I've installed all the patches and fixes I can find to run WCIV DVD on XP, and mostly it runs fine. My problem is just that I can't figure out how to make the joystick run properly. The buttons work, and it seems to move the cursor in the menus, but in-game, it won't actually control the ship. Any suggestions?
 
You need to press alt-o in flight. Then you choose joystick and click save settings. THat should do the trick.
 
Joystick problem

OK, I got that to work, but now, I've got no way to calibrate the joystick... it doesn't seem to grasp the whole range of motion, and so the controls are sluggish. I keep getting blown up because I can't maneuver. Any further suggestions?

Make sure that the stick is calibrated in the windows xp game controlers panel in control panel.
