WCIV DVD Sound

Hi

I just got my WCIV DVD to work using the files on http://home.amis.net/lkslavi/

It is beautiful, but I got one problem: The sound volume in the videos is much much much lower than in the actual game or the multiple choice sequences, or in windows for that matter. That is pretty annoying. Anyone know how I can fix that? I really don't like constantly adjusting my speakers volume :(

Cheers

The reason you might be seeing it is that the videos are encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround, while the rest of the sounds are regular sound effects. DVD playing software will decode DD into regular audio (it's a requirement so people without DD decoders can hear DVD audio). Of course, that means the signal processing path is different than regular Windows.

One think you might want to try is to go into your DVD player app, and set the volume to maximum - sometimes the audio decoder stores its volume setting and uses that when it needs to.

If you've hooked your audio output to an A/V receiver to decode DD 5.1 audio, you might want to see if you can adjust its gain on non-DD encoded audio.
