hello. i just got WC4 and i tried to install it on my laptop. when i click on the install icon, and the dos windows pops up i get this message: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application. And you can choose either close or ignore. when i hit ignore, it does nothing. i also tried using DOSbox and the game runs fine, but the sound is all choppy and that causes the movies to be choppy. i also have VDMsound and when i try to run it, i get the same message as above. what can i do to sovle this program, so i can play this game that i used to love playing long time ago?

okay i got the patch and it still doesnt work. the problem is i can't even install it thru the MS-DOS prompt. although i did copy all the files to my hardrive, it still doesnt work because i still keep getting that message evertime i try to run it.
 
Have you tried installing it in dosbox and then applying the patch to that install?
As far as I can tell, that should do it. If not, open dosbox and switch to the directory where you have extracted to zip to. It wont work in the regular command prompt built in to XP.

As for the sound choppyness in dosbox, it is likely that increasing the cpu cycles might improve that problem. Still, try to get it upgraded to the 9x version.

However, try and be more clear in exactly what steps you took to try and get it to work. You couldn't install the game or the Patch? You were trying to install using the command prompt or using a dosbox instance? You copied all the files on the cds to your hard drive (unnecessary) or you copied the patch to your hardrive?
 
okay. what i tried to do first, i tried to install it from the cd onto XP. and thats when that message pops up about the autoexec.nt. i got it workin in dosbox, but it runs like crap. and i changed the CPU cycles and all that. and when i try to run the patch, it says that the wc4.exe could not be found. and where do i copy autoexec.nt to?
 
WC4 is not runnable in dosbox. you should only install it in dos box. then quit it and run the patch in windows.
 
I just DLed DosBox and have the same problem with WC4
How do I install it with dosbox...I have no idea how to work this thing

You probably only need to perform the commands pertaining to autoexec.nt, but replacing the other two files will do no harm. If you do not have or cannot find or otherwise cannot work with your windows cd, there are directions for writing the file by hand- it isn't difficult (you can copy and paste)
