WC4 Sound issues

Greetings,

Recently I wanted to play WC4 again (the old 6 cd-rom one), but I have found some problems playing it. Or well, the playing is ok and without much problems, the problem is when the movies start. It's like there's a huge echo all the time and it's really annoying.

I've done all that has been described here to get it working properly. I have downloaded and installed the patch, configured the ac3filter properly. I used the compability modes etc etc etc.

My system:
Win xp home sp3
Pentium 4 2,66ghz
Mobility Radeon 7500
(yes, I'm on a laptop)

Perhaps I've missed the solution to my problem. I'd appreciate any help to solve this problem. Thanks in advance!

Note: I also own WC Prophecy and it works without any problems on this computer.

AC3 filter won't make a difference with the CD version. That's for the 5.1 DVD audio on the DVD version.

What kind of soundcard are you running? Do you have any DSP (or similar) settings turned on? You could also try adjusting the sound hardware acceleration setings and see if that makes any difference.

Soundcard is a (as far as I know) onboard one called Sigma Tell Audio.

I have adjusted the sound hardware acceleration using the dxdiag program. I had to do this to get Prophecy working.

And uh, perhaps I'm stupid now, but I got no clue what DPS means.

DSP are settings that artificially simulate you being in different environments, so one mode might be like being in a concert hall where it automatically adds delays on the rear chanels and adds echo.

That wasn't the problem. Strangly it seems whenever I was running an other program (like ie or firefox etc etc) the problem would occur. I found out today it worked perfectly if I ran the game without running anything else. So problem solved I guess.

Thanks again for your support :)

That's great that you got it working right and thanks for posting what your fix was. It can be a pain if someone shows up much later with the same problem and the person solved the issue on their own but didn't tell anyone how.

I also just recently reinstalled this game only to find out that the sound during the videos was really deep. The same kind of sounds came in through chat over Vent when i was in game. I at least think i did properly add dxmci files into the directory and i've notived that there's a patch everyone keeps talking about. I found the files section in CIC but don't know exactly which patch to put in, so if you could post a link or tell me which one would work for the six cd version of the game i would appreciate it. My sound card is an ASUS Realtek HD audio, currently it's set to digital audio, i don't know if that matters but if it does help then all the better. I have no environment adjusters set, which i'm assuming is similar to ASP because i can't find any option like that on there but when i set different environment adjusters the sound in the videos only sounds deeper. tried all dxmci levels except 0. Running DirectX10 on an Nvidia 8800 gt. any and all help would be appreciated. and of course i'm running win 95 compatibility

does this only happen when running 'Vent' at the same time as the game? Does it do it still if you make sure to close all programs other than the game while playing?

yup tried that when he said his problem was with firefox open. all other programs are closed. as far as i can tell i don't think the patch wic4win 95 will matter because it does the same thing anyway. my sound card is up to date. don't know if it matters but when i switch with alt o in cockpit and set video options to vga instead of svga it doesn't save the option. I'll try to install it on my laptop and see if i can get it to work that way.

The videos run perfectly on my laptop and my brother says it runs perfectly on his computer, guess i'll just have to buy a usb mouse....thnks though...hopefully i can get WCsaga to run now.
