WC4 Playing Problem

Ok. This might seem like a stupid question amidst all these advanced technical questions, but... how do I access the WC4 game once it's installed? I installed it using dos box .70 and the directions found on the CIC Tech support and everything went great. But to play the game again, on the prompt screen typing WC4 takes me back to the install screen. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to return to the game withouth having to install it every time. I'm a little computer deficient, any help would be appreciated.

The installer may exit directly to a prompt where you can type wc4 and start the game. In the future, you will need to mount the hard drive and CD-ROM again (unless you include this line in DOSBox.conf) and navigate to the directory where your game is installed. Make a note of where you installed the game and type CD (directory name) to go there, and then type wc4 and enter.

Unlike WC3, you can't start the game by navigating to the disc (typically D:\ prompt). If you do this with WC4, you will go to the installation menu. You need to change to the hard drive directory where you installed the game and then type WC4.

I am being told to make a bootdisk when I do this. Opening the program fails when file GLOBALS.IFF is accessed. have I configured the DosBox config. file wrong?

If you just installed DOSBox and followed our Tech Support tutorial, then dosbox should be configured correctly. Did you change anything else in the config file?

What exactly do you do that causes the game to ask you to make a boot disk or display the error?

I didn't change anything else in the config file. When I want to play the game I have to install the game all over again just like that other person had to.

When I opened the game from the directory in my c:\ directory like you said, it tells me to make a boot disc.

What exactly are you doing to mount your hard and disc drive in DOSBox? What is the real hard drive location for this directory and what files are in it? Have you tried the Windows 95 WC4 version/patch?

I do exactly as stated in the Tech Support for running WC4 on XP on this website.
I have not yet tried the Win95 patch yet. Where can I find that patch?

the location is C:\WC4

There are several files there, such as
00000102.WSG
BOOTDISK
GAMEFLOW.TRE
GLOBALS
HMIDET.386
HMIDRV.386
INSTALL
JEMM.OVL
JOYO
MCGA.DLL
MISSIONS.TRE
MUSIC1.TRE
OBJECTS.TRE
README
STARTWC4
SWAPFILE.$$$
UNIVBE
VESA480.DLL
WC4 (iT SAYS THIS IS THE CONFIG FILE)
WC4
WC4.ANM
WC4.CDS
WC4LANG
WCIV
WSG_NDX.WSG

Just a thought: If you mount the directory c:\wc4 in dosbox (and not the whole c: drive) you need make sure that you are telling the installer to look in the right place because it will not find a subdirectory called wc4 within the WC4 folder that you mounted

Something must be different. It doesn't sound like a bug or any glitch with the software. I'm thinking there's some small little thing you do without thinking that's breaking things each time. I was mainly asking earlier so you could put into your own words your exact steps so we could try to catch what this was.

I have not yet tried the Win95 patch yet. Where can I find that patch?

All of the official WC patches are in our Files section.

I mounted C: and not c:/wc4 if that is any help. I have done exactly as the instructions tell me.
Could somebody please copy and paste the correct config file code here so I can possibly fix this?

You should be able to run the game from a fresh DOSBox 0.70 install without making any changes to the config file.

Have you double-checked that none of the files in C:\WC4 are read-only for some reason? How did the Windows 95 patch go?
