I've went through all the tech support I could find and the dox and manuals and just about every other resource and available patches I could find. Disc 2 (the mission where you are shooting cap missiles and after a Frigate and Destroyer) gives that little smiley face crash ALWAYS in the same spot! very annoying!
Has anyone figured out a way around this?
I've tried a boot disk to no avail. The official win95 patch I'm also attempting to use and it crashes and dumps on me as well. Updated my DirectX drivers as suggested by Origin's FAQ.
I seem to recall it all working fine when I was using Win95 but I played through WC4 a few times and then it got chucked into a box (yeah, boo hiss, slap with wet noodle!) and I upgraded to Win98SE. I'd love to get back into the game but there is seemingly no way to bypass that crash and I've played with every possible setting suggested so maybe someone has a definite solution that I've not encountered yet.
This is all running on an AST Adventure 430 and the CPU is a 200mhz original Pentium w/MMX, 64 megs SDRAM, and an S3 Trio 64V+ graphics chipset which can apparently cause glitches.
Not sure why or how it worked on Win95 but I'd like to fix the problem in Win98SE if at all possible before dumping it all back in the box.
The first Disc played through just great so... I don't get it.
