i cant get wc3 to work on vista i get to the part were you need to save the game settings before playing so i put c:\wc3\ but it says it does not work

How are you trying to run this? In plain Windows or DOSBox? Is this the DOS version or Kilrathi Saga? Have you tried following the Tech Support walkthrough? https://www.wcnews.com/techsupport.shtml#wc3
