WC3 under W98

Is it possible to play Wing Commander III on a W98 PC and have it fully functional by use of autoexec.bat and config.sys files?

Content of the autoexec.bat and config.sys would be handy if anyone can supply details of how they are to be constructed.

Just that both probably won't help you a bit. What problem are you running into? My guess would be that any PCI soundcard is asking for problems...
 
I have a problem with wc3 in win98 too. its not the same problem as above but it is about WC3 in win98 so I'll post here instead of opening a new thread.

Many winters ago I bought and installed wc3 on the same computer I have now(I got a new motherboard but its the same model as before and I got a new sound card back in 2001) and I played it till I destroyed Kilrah. I then left the game because I bought WC4 and now I wanna play wc3 but for some reason when I insert CD 1 the whole computer slows down and I cant get wc3 to work. can anyone help with this problem?
 
I too have a problem running WC3 in Windows. It does not play music and it hangs during the opening Origin cutscene. Are there any patches or something I can download to rectify this problem?
 
I used to have that problem too but for the sound problem try switching the sound card on the settings. as for the movies hanging, just press Esc to skip the movie, that always worked for me.


BTW I got wc3 to work but now it wont let me go to cd2. how can I fix this?
 
Could you be a bit more specific?
Does it just halt when it asks for CD2? Did you try to press a key there?
 
what I do is I put in cd2 when it asks for it, I click to make it go and then it says incorrect cd, please insert correct cd. I keep doing this but it doesnt work, I have to alt-tab out then restart to get the computer to work right.

First, thanks for the advice, I've changed the Sound Card settings on the game and it works now. Anyway, check to see if the disk is dirty or scratched.
 
thanks, yeah the cd is really scratched up(I bought the game when it first came out about 10 years ago and its still the same cd!). is there some sort of cleaner that can take out the scratches,do I have to buy a new set, or, and this may be illegal and I hope I dont get banned for this, but could I get the files off the net since I have already spent the money on the original?
 
Some Game Stores, Video Stores, and Record Stores have a service which removes scratches. You may want to go that route. I would advice buying another set if the disc is salvagable, purely for monatary reasons.
 
awesome, I think theres a gaming type store somewhere around here, but its pretty much all hicks here( only a few ppl in my town have computers, and a few of them actually have the net!). thanks for all the help
 
k, I checked with some friends and phoned some computer shops, gaming shops, etc and I couldnt find any. could someone just upload a savegame of the first mission on cd2? I think the only problem is the switching cds part. it happened before and it was only switching for cd1 to cd2 that had a problem. thanks for any help!
 
found a savegame off the net but when I try to start wc3 it says re-init () a Tree so Im guessing it has something to do with the missions tree?
 
could somebody just give me a savegame of the first mission on cd 2 since it wont switch cds for me? I bought my copy of the game so its not like its a pirated version or anything so its all good. you can send me the savegame at jheyden19@hotmail.com. thx
