WC3 movie resolution

Hi

I find that the graphics for movie sections and animated cut scenes are blocky, and leave a pixel smear trailing behind moving, blurry objects.

I run WC3 in DOSBOX 0.65 using recommended settings, the game is fast and everything (sound etc) is fine. I just wish I had higher resolution graphics. The ingame graphics look crystal clear.

I run the game in a 600 x 400, window but still to no avail. Samelow res graphics are seen when I try running it on XP following the advice of a previous thread to make WC3 100% compatible (using VDM).

Help! I want to relive the days of WC3 on the 3DO! :)

The game was shot on video and then transfered to a digital medium. There is always going to be a level of pixilation when you do that and as the case is - what you see is what you get. You can't change the resolution on the cutscenes.

THis isn't quite the problem. It has to do with the early form of compression used on the video. The 3DO version actually uses a similar- if not the same - codec but the team redid all the compression resulting in better color and a cleaner picture. No more smears and sticky pixels. However, on the freeze frame it will still be blocky and the low resolution means you can pick out individual pixels, but the playback will be much smoother.

I did manage to extract all the video from the PSX version - which was done using the source created for the 3Do version, but we don't have a codec yet to play back the files. Hopefully HCl can make time to look at them. (IF your reading it, PM me and I'll email a sample) I don't have the 3DO version but it sounds like they should be easier to figure out than the PSX files.

Really appreciate for the imput guys. Im relieved that this low res is normal, it would be nice to be able to use the original scenes from better sources but for now I will charge on!

Unfortunately even taking the film footage from a previous version and then making, or editing a codec, is well beyond me :)
