WC3 KS, Win7 64x, minor Joystick problem

Hi all!

Great website and forums, been a long time lurker here for years -

Anyways, recently purcheased a copy of WC:KS and decided to starting playing all the WC games from scratch. I am running Win7 64x, on a quad core cpu, 9800gforce gfx. My joystick is USB, not serial. WC 1 and 2 worked perfectly with very little modifcation. In the compatability tap I had a few options turned off, but I didn't even have to set to emulate in 95, 98, xp or whatnot. After looking at all the comments of people having trouble to get it to run in XP on these forums, I was flabbergasted.

Anyhoot, I go to play WC3 -

I know this is a minor thing after looking at alot of the comments on here from people who are so happy to just be able to get into the cockpit w/o a CTD. On my rig, the joystick handling is a little wonky. When I pitch back on the controller to move my view up, after I get out of the deadzone the view actually moves DOWN for a bit, and then as I move even further back on the controller it corrects itself. It seems like a small thing, but it makes small adjustments to line up my shots nearly impossible, as I can't course correct UP. If I am turning to bring my ship to bear it is fine because I am pulling further back on the stick, but as soon as it gets in my sights, it is near impossible to hit.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance!

That's definitely an unusual error. There are command line switches you can use for the KS version of WC3 that change the dead zone. Maybe by enlarging the dead zone you can fix this.

Command-Line Parameters for Wing Commander 3 for Windows 95.

If you are experiencing performance problems or other technical difficulties with Wing Commander 3 for Windows 95, you may want to try using one or more of the available "Command-line" parameters for running the game. Since the game normally runs like any Windows 95 program, you will have to open an MS-DOS Prompt within Windows 95 to execute the command-line parameters. Click on START, on PROGRAMS and then on MS-DOS PROMPT. Change to the Wing Commander 3 directory on your hard drive (by typing CD\PROGRA~1\KILRAT~1\WC3). Type "WC3W " followed by one of the following switches:

Command-Line parameters:

-D This forces the hardware "double-buffering" to turn off. Can be helpful with video-related problems.
-NO_INTERLACE This disables the scanline "skipping" in the Wing Commander 3 movies.
-NO_SOUND Use this to disable Wing Commander 3's use of DirectSound.
-DEAD_ZONE= When you put a number between 0 and 3 after this switch, the joystick "dead zone" will be affected. Use "WC3W -DEAD_ZONE=1" to set up the joystick sensitivity to 'precise.' Use "WC3W -DEAD_ZONE=3" to widen the dead zone.
