WC3 Keyboard control

I am currently running WC3 on my Windows 98 laptop. The game works great!

Just one quick question; I am using the keyboard to control my fighter, the Arrow responds fine, but the other fighters stick in the up and left directions? What up with this? The Longbow is barely able to maneuver at all!

you can hold down shift to increase your turn rate, but the keyboard really is an awful way to play wc3 or wc4

Ok, holding shift works. Is there any way to bind the shift key down so I don't have to press it. I plan on buying a USB game pad tomorrow, but until then I can't fight waves of Vaktoths while holding the shift key.

I originally played WC3 through fine with the keyboard for the first few years. I never minded the shift key. You don't want to bind it, because then your shots are imprecise when you're zeroing in on a target ahead of you.
