WC3 In WinME

I just got out my old dos version of WC3 and I am having the typical video problems. All videos go superfast for a second and then freeze up. I can hit escape and fly the missions fine, but the games no good with out the video. I'v tried the majority of things on the threads for other windows versions but ME was not discussed. Anyone have any ideas?
 
Windows ME is not very DOS friendly since it does away with a native DOS mode. Windows 98 was the last version of windows that ran on top of DOS and therefore had good compatibility with games. The best thing to do with your system would be to make a DOS boot disk loading up whatever drivers you needed.

Are you sure? WinME may make it difficult to get to a DOS command prompt, but AFAIK, it's still built on the old DOS/Win9x kernel.
 
I figured it out anyway

I was searching the internet for an ME patch to make the game playable. I stumbled upon this patch which should also work for 2000, and XP. Worked like a charm with no major work to be done.
Funney thing was that when I went back to get the address for it so I could post it here, the web site is no longer there. I still have the patch on my cpu is there a place to up lode it onto the CIC?

I'm not sure what the deal is, but the web site I got the patch at is up again. So for anyone who wants an ME patch for Wing Commander 3 (It also works with all other modern vrsions of windows) Go to this site http://www.topnalias.com/jx/EN/Download.htm

as an added bonus there is also a patch to fix the anoying movie skip problem with WCP. Both patches were easy to use and worked perfectally.

No, it hasn't, although it exists quite a while, AND although it is quite easy to make, if you know what it is: It exists of the files that were added in the Wing Commander Kilrathi Saga Version. - So I guess that is why it was never uploaded here at wcnews.

To the WCP video fix: You can also get that one in the wcnews-files section. ;)

EDIT: You don't need the music file, but then you won't have any music.
 
I guessed it might have been from the KS version, but then the issue of legality pops up. Plus, is only the executable necessary for it to work? IIRC, WC1 had many files modified for KS, but then WC1 is also a lot older than WC3.
 
the WC3 files are not that much different, only the exe, some additional config files, as well as the music file, which is the biggest part of it. - And yes, then the legal part comes up. That is why I always mention it, after someone links to that "patch".
 
I've tried that there patch and everything was running fine until I got to talking with Cobra. All freeze ahead. I managed to skip that but got stuck coming into flight control after the first escort mission. Anyone got any other ideas??
