I have heard rumors that Windows versions (those that came with Kilrathi Saga) of first and second game in series were in general inferior to DOS releases due to additional glitches, missing graphic details and such. When comparing different versions of WC1, I noticed that this is apparently true at least for the first game.

Thus, I would like to know if there is any similar differences between DOS and Windows versions of Wing Commander III. I already know that some people have had problems running latter with modern computers and that it doesn't support VGA mode. However, I haven't noticed any visible problems when I've tested this version.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm not sure what you mean by the VGA mode comment. The graphical modes in WC3 are pretty much the same in DOS and Kilrathi Saga versions. There aren't really any visible problems. In the process of impriving the music, some stuff was left out I believe. There are some incompatibilites were modern joysticks.

My comment about VGA meant that DOS release had supposedly two different graphic modes (VGA and SVGA) and that only SVGA mode was available in Windows version (not exactly a major loss, I'm sure).

Thank you for clarifying this up.
