WC1 Problems

First, I would like to say hi to everybody who reads this..

Secondly, my problem:

When I got my first computer back in 1992, our friend threw in a copy of WC1 as a gift. I played the game for countless hours, eventually making it to the mission where the Kilrathi Star Base is attacked.

That computer is long gone, and now I use this machine, which is about 100 times faster. When I tried playing WC1 on here, the game went so fast that it was unplayable.

Any advice from you veterans?

And, also, on my old computer I couldn't save games (I got a classic error message), which meant i had to start over from the beginning every time I died. This wasn't much of a problem, it gave me a reason to play more, but it WAS an annoyance.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the CZ Nicolai !!!
Download mo´slo or turbo from the Files Section of the CIC and slow your computer.

Thanks for the welcome Ghost. I downloaded both, and will try them out tonight.

Oh, and do you have any recommendations for my Save Game problems?

And, on for the more technical types, what % slow down should I use? This computer I am on now has a 700 Mhz processor (i think). I have no idea what my old one had, but it was fairly good for 1992 technology...say 50 Mhz? Suggestions, please?

In DOS games i use 30 % (i have a Celeron 400 with 128mb RAM)
In your new machine you have the same problems with the save ????
Try disabling the Read-Only Attributes of your WC directory.
Maybe works.

I just tried using Turbo tonight. I utilized the training simulator for my guide, since it is a quick way to check if the level is adequate for flying.

At 15% slowdown, it was choppy and just didn't work well.

At 20% slowdown, it was a little less choppy, but was too fast still.

At 25% slowdown, it was hardly choppy at all, but way too fast for good play.

I didn't even bother working with the save game, I was annoyed :)

The problem might lie in that I only have 56 MB RAM (hey, the computer was a gift, however slow it is). This might be the cause of the choppy look to it.

I played WC1 with a 286 with 4mb RAM and go very well.
try between 23 and 32 %, 1% makes a difference.
And about youe save problem i don´t have a clue :(

Sorry to take so long to reply. I might have a way for it to work. Try to go to CMOS and disable your L1 cache memory. Then run moslo at whatever percent makes the frames not choppy. I have done this on a 486 and I don't even have to run moslo.
