I'm trying to play the Kilrathi Saga version of Wing Commander 1 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine and everything runs fine apart from the colours seem to randomly invert. I have tried various different compatibility settings but the only one that seems to make a difference is running in 256 colours (usually when I start up the game it is inverted already, but this makes it so that the colours are normal on the intro cinematic).
The colours do go back to normal at certain times during gameplay and I'm fairly sure that this is not random, at least not entirely. For instance, when I click "Start Vega Campaign" the colours always revert back to normal. Also, I've noticed that they seem to go back to normal when I get hit by enemy fire. I also tried ramming the TCS Tiger's Claw while the colours were inverted to see if they would change back and it worked.
While I was searching for solutions I found one for a similar problem with StarCraft: http://gamedrone.net/2010/07/24/resolving-starcrafts-color-glitch-on-modern-systems/
I tried making a similar batch file but for the Wing Commander exe, but the game didn't start, so I figured I must be doing something wrong. I also tried the suggestion in the comments section to open the resolution window and play the game, but that didn't work.
Any ideas on how I could fix this problem, or should I just give up and try playing in DosBox?
