WC:SO offline fiction viewer trouble

criticalmass

Vice Admiral
This may be another rerun, but I've searched the forums and didn't find anything useful. So here's my problem:

Years after the real thing I wanted to play SO again - no big problem, since I had all the files... - well, except the fiction.

So I look around and stumble over CFF's fiction viewer, and all html needed to populate it. And it works fine, well.. - until the part when I want to read the fiction.

Here's what I did:
I unzipped the fiction viewer into its preset folder structure.
I copied all fiction html files into the "episodes" folder.
I edited all fiction html's to get out the web reference, as stated in the viewer readme.

What it does:
It starts up beautifully, goes into the episodes (I can even "download" them if I copy the files into the files folder), but when I hit the Mail, ICIS or ISDN buttons, It comes up with the blank file-not-found screen.

My setup:
An old P150 with 2 drives (tried both), 32 meg of RAM, a 4MB S3 card, and Win98SE. The machine has Prophecy, Privateer, Priv2, and Kilrathi Saga installed and runs fine with most of them (Priv only in DOS mode).

Any idea what's wrong? I'd really appreciate it, since I just reading the plain files one after another somehow spoils the fun.

Two things that might work or at least give some insight into what is wrong:
*) Try the text only links instead of the nice buttons for the fiction. Does this change something?
*) Look if the extensions of the fiction files are correct. It should be ".HTML", but IIRC IE had the bad habit to save the files as ".HTM".

Karl, thanks a lot for clearing this up!

It was the extensions - *.htm instead of *.html, as you said. And since this is supposed to go back personally to you, THANKS again for creating the fiction viewer - I feel younger already ;-]

Best wishes, Jon
