WC Secret Ops launching Game Problem

Hello Folks,

I am freaking out..

I installed Secret Ops from my prophecy gold, set alle executive files to win 95 mode, installed hcls high res patch, even installed the glide wrapper and tried to launch the game

sometimes i receive the message "glide2.dll is missing" ( it is not missing)

but most og the time, secret ops is trying to start but fails with an " wc secret ops has occured a problem, would you like to submit the problem.. bla bla"

I even tried to COPY the CD content to the hard drive and tried to launch the game, same problem..

standoff however (with the help of episode 5 ) is running though..


can you guys help me?
 
Hello BBB. I haven't ever encountered this problem. Please post your system specs. If you are on a newer system download the latest version of Zeckensack's Glide wrapper. You can find it here: http://www.zeckensack.de/glide/

It's been awhile since I played through Secret Ops and alot of enhancement packs have come out since then. Are you using an enhancement pack? I don't even know if those allow 3dfx mode to run.

On the Secret Ops launcher there should be an option that says "Select Video Card." Does selecting Direct 3D mode or Software mode allow SO to run?

You are using XP or Vista? Is the glide wrapper running when you install it in glide mode? Do you still get errors if you run in D3D, or openGL? With the highres patch for secret ops it should give you a load screen with resolution options and video mode.

I can choose between Software, Direct 3d and Glide ( due to wrapper)

The error however occurs in all 3 cases..

There is a load Screen with the hi res patch, but like I already said: It does not matter what I choose, or in what resolution i try to play. SO tries to launch, the screen gets black ( I am hoping that the game will start) and suddenly I get fired back to windows with the error message " wc secret ops has occured a problem, would you like to submit the problem.. bla bla"
 
ok i tried something different now

i disabled my kaspersky internet security for 5 minutes, and tried to run WCSO.

It started with a black screen, and i could hear the speach of the intro but very skipped..

than i adjustet my desktop resolution to 1024*768 and started the game again.

i could hear the speach (again skipped) of the game and could see the introvideo skipping very strong. When I try to end the intro with " Esc" the game throws me back to windows again with the error mentioned earlier

is there a fix for that?
 
Did you apply the compatability mode to secretops.exe and not just prophecy.exe? Did you reapply the compatability mode after installing the highres patch? Also, you should install secretops to a separate folder from prophecy. Is that the case?

Possibly, though I have no issues running it on a Core i7. Can we determine if this is an issue with the high res patch or not? Try uninstalling the game and then reinstall secret ops and set the compatability mode. Also try setting the compatability mode on the installer itself before installing. Then run the game in both directx and software modes. Does it run in software mode and not 3D accelerated? If there are no issues running the game without any patches, then we can try and see if the patch is breaking things for you.
 
i have tried it with and without the patch, no difference. the game does not start. i have also installed it with the compatibilty mode, again it does not start.

I have even thougt, that my version is corrupted (scratches on cd etc.), so I also tried to install the version from CIC (download). again the same error..

I can't see this being the problem, but do you have standoff installed? Does Standoff run? Is it installed into the secretops directory by any chance?
 
standoff runs perfectly it is in the same folder, but even when standoff is not in the same folder i get this error.

just curious to know:

right after installing secret ops from the cd (no game launch), my secret ops folder is 140mbyte big.

is that size correct? just wanna make sure there are no missing files
 
this is ridiculous..

i have unchecked the compatibility mode, thats right UNCHECKED.

It runs perfectly with the high res patch in glide..

if anyone from the mods reads this, we should maybe take this hint in the faq list?
