Hi all, new to the boards, I can't find my problem in the posts so. I am running wing commander prophecy in direct 3d on a vista system and the movies run fine, and gameplay runs fine, my problem is everytime my game crashes while it is loading the icis briefing screen, does anyone know of a workaround for this problem, thanks in advance. Tim I am running in windows 95 compatability ona nividia graphics card and realtek audio card.

I don't know if this will be true with Wing Commander, but in my tech support duties for a specific product we have our clients disable User Account Control. I looked at the support area, and Vista compatibility is supposed to work without any settings. Since you can revert with UAC to its original setting, what happens if you turn UAC off?

IIRC, Vista UAC has a problem when older programs try to write new directories to the drive, it could be possible this is what's executing your error, in which case the solution would be to disable UAC.
(Also, in regards to Dave0, I have several tech support obligations to family and a few family-friendly companies, and as they have upgraded to Vista I have unanimously suggested they disable UAC. For inexperienced computer users the added security is nice, but also difficult to work around.)
