WC Prophecy movie problem

I think this is one XP Pro-thing again, but does anyone know what causes "leaping" in the game's movie sequences? Leaping spots are random and it really suddenly leaps video forward just like I'd hitted the >>-button of DVD remote control or something.
This makes following the plot impossible!

I have duron900, 256Mb, GF2 MX400 (v12.41, tried 28.32 also) and onboard AC97-audio.

I'm not sure about your problem, do you mean the movies 'skip'? According to WildWeasel, WCP should run fine in XP.

I suppose you could try disabling sound acceleration in DirectX.

I mean, movies do skip forward from time to time, like player would get
some strange "speed boosts". Ummm, like frame skip or something. Ach.
But anyway, the problem seems to be related to sound card somehow
and this skipping problem with integrated AC97 audio.

I switched to SB64PCI and movies+sound are playing well, but after a
while watching the movie, I begin to hear some strange glitches in
sound and at the end of every longer movie sequence game totally
locks-up. No fun if I must kill the game after every clip...

Adjusting sound acceleration levels do not help either, in fact the game
won't even start if I switch all sound accelerations off. It totally jams
my XP and I'll have to reboot! Whooray!

It is absolutely true that you won't get bored with Origin's games...
Because you will spend first month with all kind of problems (tech
and blood pressure) to get the game run decently! Wow. Origin
really have done it. Totally wrecked the idea of directsound as a
bridge of compatibility. Never ever encountered a DirectX-game
before this, that refuces to function correctly because I have the
"wrong" sound card!

1) Download the WCP Patch for Win2000 (I know it´s XP but it can help, i have XP and the patch in my machine)

2)I also have the AC97 sound chip, it´s good for any non-DOS game, disable the sound acceleration (without the SB)

W2k-patch seems to do nothing and game totally locks up my machine in first movie clip when I turn sound acceleration off!
Between basic-full acceleration seems to have no effect.
Is this really so hard...

Try removing the W2k patch and running with sound acceleration off. W2k patch does introduce a weird bug which makes the game seem to lock up before playing a movie.. moving the mouse usually wakes it up though. But since the patch isn't necessary, there's no point running with it.

If your machine still locks up, there's not a lot we can say that'll help since disabling sound acceleration is the only way we know to solve the problem.

It's not unique to the Win2000 patch, I have that problem all the time - sometimes I sit there for quite a while waiting for it to load, then I realise all I have to do is move the mouse.

Yeah, right... oh, f*ck! Repeat, AC'97 onboard sound, newest
drivers for XP. Turn sound acceleration off = TOTAL LOCK-UP,
reset the only solution. With any other acceleration level movies
have strange frame-skipping effect.

Just my luck. Oh well, I can always turn off whole god damn
movie sequences...

Well, I could suggest one of two things:
1. Punch yourself in the groin until you forget about your FMV problems.
2. Reinstall XP. It seems drastic, but it worked for me. I had the same situation.

Well, seems like I partially solved the problem. The thing was, that
I had to put prophecy.exe into Win95-compatibility mode before
adjusting sound acceleration to none, so movies now play decently
(but not yet perfectly). If there was no compatibility mode set, first
movie clip immediately locked-up my machine even if sound acceleration
was set to none.

Now, to the next project... how to get all the visual effects work
on my GF2 in d3d-mode... must try those glide-wrappers.

Ops, sorry thought you already knew about the compartiblity thing. It's the first thing I setup with older games.

Yeah, guess I wasn't smart enough to use both Win95-compatibility
and sound acceleration = none at the same time ;-)
