Just got WC IV. I am unfamiliar with the DosBox programs or any Dos emulation for that matter. However, I got it working all right. At one point, Dosbox had me calibrate my joystick. I have a Saitek P990 Dual Analog. I don't know if I calibrated it correctly, because when I load the game, the cursor continually runs down the screen, and I can only direct it up, not to the sides. I also cannot use the mouse, or change any options because it won't stay still. I can't figure out how to get back to the DosBox calibration screen. Also, when I am presented with options when speaking, the bottom choice is highlighted, and when I try to choose the other response, it flashes very quickly up and then down and will not let me choose the top choice. I have the CD-Rom Dos version. Any help is greatly appreciated as I am very anxious to get back playing this.

Thanks

Are you running XP? Have you tried the win95 patch and then setting the compatability mode to either win95 or 98? Then you should just be able to calibrate in windows.

I am running XP. I am not sure how to do either of the things you mentioned, so any tips would be great. Thanks!

The box I have says it is the DOS 5.0 version. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I downloaded the patch from this site, but I'm not sure exactly what I am supposed to do with it. Thanks for the help.

Just unzip it into your wc4 directory. From now on, run the game using the wc4w.exe file. Set wc95 or 98 compatability mode by right clicking the exe and clicking properties and then the compatability tab. If you still have joystick trouble there is also a joystick patch here: http://download.wcnews.com/files/wing4/wc4joy.exe

I got it working now. Thank you very much for your help. Unfortunately now the game keeps crashing after the 4th or 5th mission, rescuing a hostage. It keeps kicking me out to the prompt of dosbox and says "you stop that. you scare my chickens!" Does that have anything to do with the other discs in the game?

At that point the game is trying to play a movie of your fighter going down to a planet. For some reason your system seems to have a problem with this, though it's odd that it's just quitting normally instead of crashing or giving an error message. Is this disc scratched? Did you ever try getting the windows version running?
