WC 4 with Windows XP

I am new to this board and found it while trying to find an answer to the following:

I have just purchased a new PC and It has windows XP (pent. 4 2.0 GH, 256 M ram, 16mb ATI graphics card, etc). I have a copy of WC4 That I have previously run in windows 95 or 98 and I cannot get it to install. I have tried the "adding software" feature through the opperating systemand doing it manually through the command prompt (which brought back some painful memories of DOS). Either way it starts to run the BAT file but then stops and the screen goes dark. I know very little about any windows product past 95 (I am a MAC user at heart and am just getting back to the PC evil empire pretty much so I can play WC again) so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use a boot-disk to enter DOS mode and install the game from there. Be wary of having the install program detect your sound settings, as this may cause your computer to crash. Once the installation is finished, reboot into Windows XP and apply the Wing Commander IV for Windows 95 patch. This should make the game run perfectly.
 
Thanks. That was fast, I've come to the right place. Do you know where I get/download the boot disk info and the patch for windows. (sorry to be so high maintainance on my first question, but it has been a long time since I have dealt with DOS, boot disks etc..)
 
That depends on what file system you're using on your hard drive. If it's FAT or FAT32, then one of the old Windows 98 Startup Disks should be all you need.

Thanks for the help, I'll let you know if it works. Hopefully I'll be flying a Banshee this time tomorrow night.

I was going to ask the same question, Guess I will not do it, BTW I don't like the forum changes thay suck, even or a joke they sucks

???????????? o well, top tell you the true, the images are cool, the colour, i mean the pink, it doens't look like a Wing Commander Page, it look like something else..... more like..........g........ don't want to right that :p.

sorry jphnl12 is my foult I shoud have make the comment in the Bacgusetsu CIC tread, I kwon this WC Page rules, in fac is the best Wc Page I have ever seen, but simetimes I goes a little waky, maybe I do not undestand the american Hummor (USA Hummor)
