hi, i have descovered an old cd of wing commander 2, but cannot get it to work under windows - it crashes etc etc. i have win 95 and cannot use pure dos mode as i have no cd rom drivers for it. any known trouble with this? any method to get it to work in win 95? thanks

I am also having this trouble, but in Win 98, and with more programs. I'm trying to get the DOS versions of WC1, WC2, Special Ops 1, and Special Ops 2 to work under Windows 98. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

WC2/Origin FX don't seem to like Windows so much. Those OFX-drivers fail to load, etc.

mage: Try installing it entirely to the HD. As in putting every resource-file there. Someone described the procedure in sufficient detail somewhere, I just don't remember which topic it was...

That'd be me. And Origin FX drivers have nothing to do with WC2 not liking Windows, in fact WC2 likes Windows very much as it's one of the games that will usually run with no hassles.

Eh?
Maybe you are talking about KS WC2, you need DOS to run WC2.. you can´t run WC2 in windows.

No, I'm talking about the original WC2 in Windows. In a Windows 9x DOS box, at any rate. I don't have KS. And I know my memory isn't fooling me, 'cause I was playing both WC1 and WC2 in Windows for the dialogue. Windows can also run Academy, WC3, WC4, and of course, WCP and SO - AFAIK, only Privateer and Armada cannot be run in any Windows configuration other than in pure DOS mode or a DOS emulator.

Right, I stand corrected. I didn't have much luck running WC2 in Win98, though, but running it in DOS wasn't problematic enough to try in Windows. For me... Uh, anyway. Right. To Wedge you will listen.
