No, it's a good idea if you want to play DOS games. THe SB Live family has something called SB16 Emulation, which allows it to act like a clunky old SB16. So, in the control panel, there's a tab with all the DOS settings you'll ever need, and there are also DOS utilities on the installation disk. At least that's true of my SB Live Value Digital, but they're all the same thing basically.
