I recently picked up that great mod but I'm having a hard time beating that one particular mission, 9A.
You are to escort an SAR Avenger to some jumppoint which is defended by an alien cruiser. SAR jumps, I beat the crap out of those fighters, SAR jumps back, I keep fighting til I run out if fuel and get wasted by a couple of missiles. :(
Do I just have to try harder or is there somekind of trick?
I hope someone still remembers how to do it. :rolleyes:

Btw is there any other SO mod of such a high quality? I usually refrain from playing fan made games but I guess I was starved enough to give it a shot (not that I regret it):D

Yes. You have two options. You will be allowed to autopilot to safety if you can kill all the other fighters before the first of the Squids show up. Alternatively, if you've made sure to download the v1.03 patch as well, you will be able to retreat simply by flying away from the navpoint. Eventually, the Squids will stop following you, and you'll be able to leave.

hehehe :D Just clean the area before the Squids arrive and autopilot the hell out of there.

Check out Standoff. It´ll be out before Christmas ;)
 
Mission 1 help

Okay, this is gonna sound sad, but I can't get past the first real mission. I either get sliced to death by the Fralthi's turrets or I get obliterated by the endless waves of fighters that seem to keep materializing if I ignore the Fralthi... regardless of what ship I choose... someone please give me an approach that make success possible in this mission...
 
Auto Slide. Your best weapon against the Fralthi. That and DF missiles on the turrets.
 
Yep. First thing you should always do is take out the missile turrets on the Fralthi using dumbfires or (in the case of the Epee) the stormfire gun.
 
I only got past that mission in the Epee. Autoslide and afterburn away a lot to get rid of those turrets.
 
Hmm, the Epee can be useful for that mission (especially when you're playtesting - it's faster, so you can get to the Fralthi quicker :p ), but I find the mission equally easy with both ships. The Epee's stormfires are wonderful against turrets, you can take them out while staying out of range. The Scim, on the other hand, has four dumbfires, allowing you to take out all four missile turrets in one or two passes - and that's a wonderful thing.

Heh, I wonder what these missions would be like now, after two years - back at the time of UE's release, they all seemed incredibly easy to me (a year of playtesting has that result :p ). Maybe now UE would actually be a challenge.
 
I must confess, I had to cheat through the damn thing just to see how my models looked in the endgame cutscenes. :p
 
Nah - UE isn't all THAT hard. Well I have to admit I didn't play it through on the hardest setting yet IIRC, but the rest isn't that aweful. I got more problems with all timed missions. Not exactly my strength.
 
Well, I just kinda suck. :p I really did have to cheat through one of the missions, can't remember which, on the easiest difficulty level.
 
It's not like any of us don't know how the B.O.T. turns out.

Of another subject, working twelve hours on a saturday, after working 14 hours every day the preceeding week, is enough to leave someone feeling like crap.
 
v1.02 is of course what I meant - you can understand my confusion, I'm sure, given that I uploaded no less than three v1.02 patches :).
 
Having trouble with Mission 9 in UE

First off I have played all of the WC games since they first came out. It's a great series. UE is a fantastic mod, I'm having a great time playing it.

I'm just having a little problem with Mission 9. Before I can engage the enemy fighters a cutscene comes in, the SAR jumps in the cutscene and it never comes back, the game doesn't come back and eventually I get killed without ever getting to fire a shot.
