Does anyone know why i am unable to connect to IRC here through the forums after i am logged in. I click IRC and the chat applet thing loads but then when i try to connect to the server i get a message saying "unable to connect,java.net.Connect.Exception, connection refused." Any ideas why? it is something with my internet browser settings?

It could be. The Java client is only there as an easy option for newcomers. If we have to troubleshoot it for people, they might as well just be using mirc, which we strongly recommend people connect with anyway. Just download and install it, then type the two lines in the #Wingnut section to connect (/server irc.wcnews.com & /join #Wingnut).

The only thing is, I believe he may be connecting from work on his breaks. Which would probably mean he couldn't download mirc.

Or it could mean his workplace's security settings do not allow people to run applets in their browsers. Or that he's blocked from connecting to IRC servers.

My first suggestions to troubleshoot the java client would be to install the Java runtime engine for his browser. Try http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html http://javashoplm.sun.com/ECom/docs...4.2_12-oth-JPR&SiteId=JSC&TransactionId=noreg

That's probably a scarier download than just putting nice little mirc on your computer though.

I've got a Power Mac G3 with OS 9.something.. it's an old computer from 1995.. I've never been able to connect to IRC. Is it possible for my old Macintosh? What do I need to download and is there a link I can click on?
