...Wherein we ask the question: How should I best arrange my drives, and set the "chain of command" (Primary/secondary/Master/slave, etc.) among my many drives/IDE channels?
(Well, this ain't so much a WC specific question, but it may still be relevant to my quest for that ultimate WC box, so: )
To wit:
-I have multiple HDD's, a DVD drive, a CD burner, and a Superdisk drive to consider. I have the usual 2 IDE channels native to the mobo, as well as a Promise U-100 add-in IDE card, for a total of 8 available IDE devices to choose from.
-Some of my HDD's are UDMA-100 capable, so I have 'em hooked up to the Promise card (the mobo channels only go up to UDMA-66). I've noticed that (UDMA 100 or no) the devices running off the card get assigned letters C:, D:, E:, F:, while the mobo IDE ports take up the remaining letter assignments.
Therefore, running the HDD's off the card seems most logical...
But, what of the remaining drives?...
-Should I run the DVD/CD drives off the same IDE channel?
-If so, WHICH should take the Master position?
-I *think* (I'll hafta check the LS-120 manual) the LS-120 requires it to be in master position in order to boot off of it (I use it as my floppy drive as well as for Superdisk madness). That said, would there be any performance hit if I put one of the optical drives in the slave position?
-WHICH should I put in that position, if it matters at all.
Questions asked. Talk amongst yourselves.
