Trouble with WC4

Just installed WC4, DOS Box and the Win95 patch. Video works fine, and everything is great, until the first mission, flying off the planet with Maniac is supposed to start, and then everything crashes. Happens each time. Any suggestions?

Running the game on XP. Doesn't matter which compatability setting I use. Appreciate any suggestions or advice.
 
I'm confused what dosbox has to do with this? ARe you running wc4w.exe (with compatability mode set)? What happens without any compatability mode?
 
I only mentioned DOS Box because I had orignally downloaded it before noticing the WIN 95 patch. I'm using the WC4 exe. and have tried it in all compatability modes, and also in just regular XP. It goes through the bar sequence just fine, but then goes to desktop as soon as the first flying kicks in.

If there is one, use wc4w.exe instead of wc4.exe and see if that helps.

Alternately, yoiu could try getting it to run in dosbox first. Make sure you have version 0.65 and then follow the tech support walkthrough at the CIC: https://www.wcnews.com/techsupport.shtml#wc4

I have been using wc4w and tried DOS box again. I have all the latest stuff. Might try uninstalling and starting over. If you have any other ideas, I would appreciate it.

Don't launch the game through dosbox when using wc4w.exe, make sure the compatiablity mode is set to 98, or 95 before launching. Also if the sound problems continue try setting the Hardware accel in dxdiag to full.
 
Got it working

Reinstalling worked fine. Game plays ok, but I'm still having graphics problems even after I installed the 16 SVGA patch. Any recommendations. I'm running the game in 95 compatabillity. Thanks for all the help so far.

Check the Readme in the WC4 directory. There are Flags you can use and apply in the shortcut to change quality. Also when in flight try ALT+O
 
Thanks. That helped a bit. I guess I'm used to the graphics on Prophecy. Working as good as it's gonna get now.
