Strange Monitor Problem

Not WC related but this is the best tech help forum I know...

This started yesterday for reasons I cannot understand.

If I delete a video file (AVI, MPG, etc) - my monitor turns off and then back on. I mean - I can delete the file no problem - but monitor refresh is... really, really strange and any other file deletes without this happening.

Any clues?

Wow, I'm sorry.

I don't think I know enough about the situation to get an idea of what's going on. I'm lost at the part where you talk about monitor refresh being "strange." What exactly does that mean? Are you physically deleting the files or just removing them to the recycle bin? How big have each of these files been? What kind of monitor is it? What happens when you rename a small text file to .avi and delete that?

Perhaps I should rephrase. The monitor blanks out for a second, as if you were switching screen resolution. (However, it doesn't change, as I've checked)

Moving them to the recycling bin has no ill effect. Only physically deleting them and, again, only video files.

As small as 6 megs to as large as a couple hundred. (I'm cleaning out my HD)

Generic Dell CRT.

No ill effect deleting it in any fashion.

What happens if you change the folder options? Open a folder and click on the "view" menu and choose either "list" or "Details." On my PC, some AVIs crash the folder when trying to generate the preview image for the thumbnail so simply switching the folder to show the generic media file icon instead might do the trick. It might be some wierd random error between your video drivers and whatever windows does to generate the preview image. Have you recently upgraded your video drivers maybe?
