Stargate

Who here likes Stargate?

I, personally, think that James Spader makes a better Daniel Jackson than Michael Shanks. I also think that the Atlantis characters are more likeable and sarcastic.

It's a good way to travel, but the jet lag is a constant problem.

Does James Spader even remember who Daniel Jackson even is?

EDIT: Not making up new words now. :)

I enjoyed the original movie when it came out, and I followed SG-1 for a while but fell out of it for one reason or another after 3 or 4 seasons.

An actor also having been on Star Trek is neither a reference nor an allusion.

They had Armin Shimmerman on for a few episodes, and not only did they not make some sort of reference or joke, it took them something like 3 episodes before they got him in a scene with Renee. What a missed opportunity.

OMG, Stargate: SG-1 is endng this year!!!

Stagate Atlantis will apparently be its successor, bu a spinnoff series is gonna begin in 2008.

Also, it appears that Rolan Emmerich might be planning on making a Stargate 2, fllowing the originally planned storyline, so that SG-1 would seem like an alternate universe! Going to stargate2.com takes you t the MGM homepage!

Also, a redirected URL request doesn't necessarily mean anything.

For all we know, it could be an overglorified "bait and switch", using the SG2 site to grab viewers to stuff ads in their face. :p

There are still rumblings of Emmerich's Stargate trilogy getting underway.

There are also, IIRC, at least two direct to video SG1 movies that will kick off production when the series ends.

I would love to see Emmerich finish his vision in addition to the DtV SG1 movies, and I seem to remember reading about some loophole in the rights that would allow that to happen.

It probably has nothing to do with rights. Consider that MGM was the American distributor for the movie and produced the series as well.

A new Stargate movie would suffer the same fate as Serenity - fans would froth over it annoyingly and it wouldn't pull in enough money to merit any attention.

I just saw the commercial for the final season of SG1 last week sometime, and I was surprised 'cause quite honestly I thought it had ended already. Was the end of last season a cliffhanger?

From what I can understand SG-1 was never an alternate universe.
SG-1 series occur after the movie when the team went back and ask Daniel Jackson to help them.
I have watched the series for a long time so I could only remembe so much.
All I can recall is that the SG team went to find Daniel, Daniel's wife is taken away by Apohis as well as Jack O'Neil's friend Skaara.
So everything from SG-1 series and Stargate Atlantis is a continuation from the first movie.

The idea of another movie for Stargate may be interesting but uncertain, if such was to occur I would watch it and see how it is..

I'm a big fan.
I somewhat enjoyed the movie, but Kurt Russell annoys me, I've never picked it up on DVD. I'm a massive fan of SG-1 and Atlantis however, even going so far as to attend cons. SG-1 has declined slightly but thats understandable continuing on an seemingly improvised plotline. Atlantis on the other hand increasingly seems to go from strength to strength. There's only a few times stargate takes your breath away but it is very nice to have sci-fi of such a high standard, week after week, for a decade, especially now in the absence of star trek (although given the choice I'd take stargate over trek).

Yeah, the pilot episode of SG-1 is a direct continuation of the movie. They even go so far as to put in one of the supporting military characters from the movie (Kawalski) into a reoccuring character on the show.

However, it should be noted that the show has poked fun at the movie on more than one occasion. During one episode, O'Neill (played by Anderson) says the spell his name with "two Ls" because "the other O'Neil doesn't have a sense of humor" - which is obviously poking fun at the Kurt Russel interpretation from the movie.

I somewhat enjoyed the movie, but Kurt Russell annoys me.

In Kurt Russell's defense, theres not much character to work with in the movie. A distraught Colonel (with a mullet wig!) comes back from inactive service after his son shoots himself. Beyond that, he's just John Rambo stuck in Lawrence Of Space Arabia.

Kurt Russell has also done some stellar acting over the years like Breakdown or Dark Blue. He also directed one hell of a great movie (Tombstone) that he wasn't allowed to take credit for due to union obligations (since the death of George P. Cosmatos, Russell has been allowed to speak out and take credit for the end result).

And you haven't seen Elvis till you see Kurt Russell play him (under the direction of John Carpenter of all people!)
