Standoff, 2d sound play error:(-2004287480)

hi. i just downloaded the whole package of wing commander standoff but i cant get past the initial start up. at first the screen is black when i launch the game. then if i move the mouse just a little it says loading and i see a brief image for a moment. and then it crashes with fatal error:

2d sound play error: play error: (-2004287480).

i have tried every compatibility option. my machine is an HP pavilion dv6700ea entertainment notebook. it has an nvidia 8400m gs graphics card and a built in realtek high definition audio device for sound. also i do have the latest drivers. any help would be very much appreciated. thankyou :)
 
I haven't tried the latest Standoff yet, but it seems to me that a GeForce 8400 - a Mobility version on top of that - will be a little on the weak side. Have you tried disabling some of the fancier graphics options?
 
That sounds like a problem with your sound card drivers and/or DirectX, we've never ever seen that bug with WCP/SO before, and we changed nothing related to sound for Standoff. I suggest you start by checking for the lastest drivers first; then report back and we'll try to help you getting it working if it doesn't solve your problem.
 
ok i will get the latest sound drivers and see if that helps and report back. thankyou :)
