SpecOps serials

I'm just wondering the idea of that I must go some www-page and register my callsign to get serial code, before I can play the game? What's the catch? Are there any "key generators" available?

No catch. Some of us got one or two ad e-mails concerning WCP Gold.
The main reason for the registration was to get information as OSI was considering to release future (retail) games as episodic releases.
Seems it didn't work out.
They did not rework the free SO when the idea was dropped. WCPGold does not need a code however.

As for keygens. Yes there are/were some. No idea where to get them. They are useless anyhow. Register at the page - enter wrong data if you must - and note down your key. If you ever reinstall it will work again.

Wow, there are? I know HCl (I believe), for a short time was working on one, but he stopped caring...

Keygen for WCSO...

Well, the keygen was one of those projects that was more or less forgotten once i started working on other projects (which at the time were getting most of my attention). I did make a small Java keygen for WCSO, which i uploaded here again, in case someone is interested in trying it out. Unfortunately it doesn't work all that well, and some callsigns get incorrectly generated numbers, which was why i eventually took it down. (it correctly generates what is probably the world's smallest WCSO password tho: user "1", password "228", for rookie skill). I'd be glad to go bug-hunting again if there's some interest in that, although to be honest this was a program i didn't know people were actually interested in.

Why thank you. :)

Actually, I'm using IE6 on Win2000Pro at uni, dunno if that means anything with regard to the Javascript.

Win2000 Pro ship with Sun Java, XP did not. MS is mad at Sun over a lawsuit reguarding Java which Sun won. So it stop supporting Java. Sun is now suiting MS for not supporting it under Anti-Trust laws.

It's shocking, everyone is suing everyone else. I don't think I've ever heard about so many lawsuits in the past month. :(

Odd. I can see it right here, right now.

But you didn't try to submit your information, eh?
I can get that far too, but after pushing the submit-button
pretty "internal server error" occurs. Quite explaining to me.
Anyway, someone has made a callsign serial generator with
JavaScript so I don't care about that crappy secretops.com
anymore...

That the great thing about the USA. We suit everyone.:D

Of course there are. Ages ago someone posted about one in AGWC IIRC. Later he posted that very keygen into some binary group (binary.test?) at least twice. I should still have it somewhere as I kept it in case the SO site went down and WCPGold was cancelled before release for some odd reason. But it did not work 100% either - only generates Rookie codes and also Callsigns with numbers in them don't work IIRC.
With some dedication you can probably find that one or a similar program on hacker or abandonware pages. Don't ask me where - I don't visit such sites.

Well, no, considering I already submitted once before.

Pretty poor attitude to a site which once gave something for free.

Bleh, I was referring to Australians. But Aussies are becoming far too much like Americans, anyway.

Eh, the secret ops registration page randomly stops working sometimes... then someone complains and it gets fixed rather quicckly.

For what is worth...

... the bug in my key generator appears to be fixed now. There was a slight mistake in one line of code which was fixed, and a small list of callsigns incorrectly generated by the old program were generated correctly with this one. The new version can be found here. Permission to mirror the key generator is hereby granted, in case anyone wishes to.

All the best,

IMO Origin has always had a pretty poor attitude what comes to
their games. Always favoring some big "standards" - Who would
imagined that Intel is not the greatest CPU-manufacturer anymore
and only few has a Voodoo GFX board? Origin could have at least
release a patch for Prophecy that enables full effects in D3D-mode.

It would be easier too if they'll make a patch for Secret Ops,
so players don't have to register their callsigns. Maintaining
secretops.com feels a bit stupid since there's no meaning in
registering callsigns anymore 'cause there's no more OS episodes
coming...

Um... what the hell? Origin backing standards has helped things like the creation of sound blaster as the standard for DOS gaming... The fact that Glide was used (as a seperate option, instead of Glide only as many games at the time were) at a time when it was rather superior to direct 3D isn't a bad thing. When technology had advanced, they implemented more features in Direct3D as you can see in SO. I'm not quite sure what you're refering to with the Intel mention above...

Origin has actually been quite good with releasing patches out of kindness rather than necessity. Things like the WC4 Windows 95 patch... Why the hell do you think they should release a patch that gives you effects in D3D? There's already a workaround to give you everything but fog... I really don't see what you have against Origin, but they sure as hell haven't screwed anyone over with the Wing Commander series... (as opposed to some of the later Ultima games...)
