Sound Issue on Privateer 2 The Darkening

I'm running P2 on windows Xp, P2 modified with the deluxe patch. Everything works well except when I go to the navigate screen the sound ( voice corrupts ) by repeating itself several times. I get this in the video films where there are options presented by the Lev Arris. Game continues to play ok. Ive set compatability to Win 95 on the .exe file in C Dark. The sound card on my machine is a chip on the motherboard. Any suggestions anyone?

You could try adjusting the sound hardware acceleration settings in the directx diagnostic panel. Try various settings (possibly try right off) and see if that helps.

Thanks for that AD. Ive experimented with the acceleration on the audio settings available in the WXP control panel. Drppoing the accelration reduces the sounf quality on the videos generally, with the issue of an echo or repeating speech remining.

I assume that the WXP Control Panel+Audio+Hardware+Advanced are the controls you are refering to, and that there is not a specific WXP control for the direct x audio components.

This issue of an "echo" or "repeating" voice was noted in another post earlier last year (07). My issue is the same, in that it does not affect all audio, just the sub title choices on the videos, and the navigation screen which then affects comms in the game.

The earlier post does suggest this is a problem with on motherboard sound chips, my case an SiS 7012 chip.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated. Ive had the game since 1996.

The directx sound acceleration slider that AD is talking about can be found by typing dxdiag in the Run box and flipping over to the Sound tab.

Additionally, if you're using the DOS version that's been patched up to the Windows version, you might try going back and running it in DOSBox. Directions are in our tech support section. DOSBox will simulate a soundblaster, so you should have fewer issues.
