Hello,

I have tried installing Secret Ops on my computer and after it completes installation to go to the load screen, it always says,

"Error, Could not load because GLIDE2X.DLL was not found"

I do have windows XP, but I don't believe this is a matter of compatability mode. The load screen will still display, however, after I hit the play button, I can never make it into the start up select screen in Secret Ops. Any tips or possible download of the .DLL file would be appreciated. Thanks.

Adam

This IS either a matter of compatibility mode or
you try to run the game in GLIDE mode without a voodoo/3dfx based card.

Having the exact same problem! Could this be a missing file/corruption in the download? When you try to set the graphics setting(software/d3d) it also shows an error as it can't find glide2x.dll.

*sighs*

A word of general advice: don't post in threads this old without a very good reason. This thread has been 'dead' for *over* seven months now. That's a very good way to annoy people. Repeated instances are a good way to annoy admins. And this is (apparently) a violation on the upswing, and people are losing patience with it.

Now, on to your problem. Have you tried to install the hi-res patch?

I'm going to install Secret Ops and see if I can get the error (or find the file, since this isn't the downloaded version, but the Gold version).

EDIT: Never mind that first question, it doesn't apply. I found the problem, here's how to solve it.

This is a compabability problem. Go into the directory you installed Secret Ops (default is C:\Games\Secret Ops), and right-click on Secret Ops.exe, select 'Properties' from the menu, and go to the 'Compatability' tab. Set it to Windows 95 (default) after clicking the little check box to engage compatability mode.

Sorry I couldn't tell you that directly, this game isn't my specialty, which is why I installed it to see if I could duplicate the error.

Next time, look through the Wing Commander/Windows XP threads, since one of them would have had this fix, and don't worry, it was an honest mistake. It happens, and most have us have made it at some point or another. Just don't resurrect a thread this old again.
