Secret Ops Computer Specs?

What is everyone running with Secret Ops. I'm looking to upgrade my system. What are your views and preferences when it comes to a system. I'll show my specs here and give an opinion.

900 mhz AMD
Geforce 5500 256mb ram 350 mhz AGP
1.2 GB Memory

Runs good in unmodded SO, In Open GL runs ok but can't use anything above 760X 480 resolution.

I'm looking to upgrade to......

AMD Athlon XP 4000 2.6 GHZ
GeForce 8500 GT 516mb 600mhz PCI-X
2 GB memory Anyone running close to this with no problems?

I'm having trouble after a switch between 5500 PCI and AGP and am wondering if it's DirectX or the Vid Card Drivers?

That is very similar to what I am running , except I have a 128mg Ge force 5 Card and only 1 gb of memory and I can run just about any of the WC Mods at full graphics with now issues.

Unless you *want* DirectX 10, I'd really recommend you save money and drop for a 7600 or even a 7800.

They are both much faster than the 8500.

So your saying that the 8500 GT HAS to run on Direct X10? Can't run on DX 9? I mean the one I was going to get is a Gigabyte 8500GT I think it was 600Mhz Core speed 512mb ram.. I'll do some research on the ones you were talkin about. It's my understanding that you need VISTA for DX10 right?

Ok what about this setup?

AMD Athlon x2 4800 2.5 GHZ 2x512kb Dual Core
MSI Nforce500 SLI Motherboard
2 x Gigabyte 7300 GS 64-Bit (512mb ea) SLI
6gb Total DDR2 800 Ram

Keep in mind I'm running XP and (Hopefully only DirectX 8.1) or DX9 just because I'm having trouble running SO with DX 9 but that could just be my Vid card giving DX9 problems. It's a Geforce 5500 AGP. I'm not sure if anyone else s running that kind of old vid card.

2 x Gigabyte 7300 GS 64-Bit (512mb ea) SLI

SLIing a 7300? Wouldn't it be wiser buying a 7600 for around the same price? Less power usage, less heat and the possibility of upgrading with another 7600 later. Better yet, just jump to a 7800. Your system is going to be insanely powerful enough. (Is the 7950 much better then the 7800?)

I played the first to episode of Stand Off on a GeForce 3 Ti 200. :D

So your saying that the 8500 GT HAS to run on Direct X10?

The GeForce 8500 can run in Direct X 9 but it is more expensive then the more powerful native Direct X 9 boards, such as the GeForce 7800.

6gb Total DDR2 800 Ram

Are you going to be running 64bit Windows?

No. I'm just saying that unless you want DirectX 10 capabilities, there are cards from the 7 series that are much faster and still cheaper than the 8500.

EDIT: Here is a bechmark chart from tomshardware.com. The 7600 has over twice the framerate as the 8500 in Doom 3. Clock speeds differ from model to model but you're always going to find that the 7600 is around twice as fast as the 8500 in actual performance.

Hahah I think this Friday I'll make a final decision..... And also I foudn that fix... It's a HCI's site on the video/audio link problems.

Windows XP Woes.......

So I got the motherboard....Vid cards... and processor now it won't boot to windows after install.......Someone told me that you need to make it boot from the motherboard drivers disc is that true? and that it's done in the BIOS setting to make it boot the CD rom before the harddisk instead of totally reinstalling windows..... <<<< LOST THE ****** Windows XP disc which I'm kickin myself for. It was XP Professional too a lowest price I could find was $249 :( Any help would be appreciated so that I can get back to work on WC:CD.

You'd have to boot from a Win XP pro CD, then select "install", then after the installer has searched for a previous installation of Windows, select the option to repair the installation.

As for finding a CD, you're on your own. You should have gotten one along with your PC, else I can suggest to ask to borrow one from the store where you bought your PC, or from a friend... assuming you have a legal WinXP Pro key OEM sticker applied on your PC case.

Well My computer is a mog.... 1/2 man ....1/2 dog... It's just a built machine, So no store. I had the Windows XP Professional. I bought it a few years ago ...It's just that the disc went missing. So in essence....Sucks to be me :)

Ok I lost the sticker... & the disc...but...I got a belated Christmas bonus and went out and bought XP So I was blessed when I didn't think it was coming. To anyone who is building a computer make sure you own a windows xp copy & also here are the specs and it runs flawless. (When the power is able to turn on) I had to also buy a new power supply a 550 watt because of the SLI and also I run numerous fans. Here's the final specs that I got and It runs awesome. Able to play SO at 1600x1200 no skipping at all.....Running super smooth. And also recommend a distributor too. it's called www.Newegg.com. Which has no affiliation with WC:CD :)
