Screen dimming issue WC4

Hi there, purchased an old copy of wc4 and got it working on win764 with no worries, but during combat the screen will dim and the only way to fix is to press alt-o, but it dims again after 20 seconds or so. Anyone know what the issue may be and how to fix please? I've tried various options with no success.

Are you playing on a laptop? Does it do this when playing plugged in to the wall as well as off the battery? Does it have a light sensor that automatically raises the brightness when playing in a bright environment?
 
Not playing on laptop and it happens in both th patched and unpatched version.
