During the install for Privateer 2 - The Darkening Deluxe Edition the screen constantly blackouts. Moving the mouse cursor into the blackened areas disrupts the effect for a moment but it soon blacksout again. I've tried both compatibility modes and DirectX settings to no avail.

Any ideas?

Is this in XP, Vista, or Windows7? Did you set the compatability mode on the installer itself or just dark.exe? Is it black from the start or is there a specific point in the install where it starts to black out?

1.) Windows XP Service Pack 3 will all updates.

2.) I tried compatibility modes on the install program only. From my experience with similiar problems in other games it's likely the problem would persist into the game.

3.) The screen blacks out mere seconds after the program is run. The mouse clears the black but is almost instantly blackened again.

Apparently I can't edit my posts . . .

Anyway the problem does indeed seem to be confined to the install program. I had previously seen this exact problem with Fallout in which the problem plagued both the install and the game itself. Thankfully that is no the case with this game.

So you did manage to install it though? Sort of sounds like a wierd overlay issue.

Yeah, it installed but because of the blackout I couldn't read the text displayed during the install. . .

I played briefly and the movies, planets and flight don't seem to have the problem. Hopefully it won't crop up later.
