So now i'm trying to install with a DOS command prompt, this is how it goes...

C:\>d:

D:\>install
Error: 2

D:\

and it leaves me back here, so, now it wont install in windows or under a dos command prompt, how can i get this to work? please help, send any help to crystal_diode@yahoo.com thnx

Privateer 1? Good luck. P1 won't run in any NTish Windows (NT,2000,XP). It might work with stuff like VMWare, DOSBOX, BOCH,... but that others have to answer.

So how can i get privateer to work, any help is appreciated. ram and hd space is no problem, i have plenty, but can anyone help me? so if not in windows then how can i make it work in DOS? i dont know much about DOS so treat me as a newb if any help is given (step by step basically). thnx

As I said I don't know much about DOS emulators as I got DOS properly running, so I see no need for them.
As for getting DOS to run you'll need the following at least:
* a FAT16 partition if you plan to go DOS 6.22 or a FAT32 partition if you use DOS95 or DOS98 (create a bootdisk from Win95 or Win98). DOS won't work with NTFS.
* a DOS CD driver
* probably a DOS sounddriver or at least an initialisation program for your soundcard (need to know your soundcard to be mroe specific)

allright, i got it running in dos, install worked fine, now i tell it to play and it wont recognize the CD, how can i get it to recognize the CD?

?
Do I understand this right? You menaged to install it from the CD in DOS, but when you run it it doesn't recognize the CD anymore?
Or did you install it in Windows?

i have an old win95 comp that still has privateer installed on it but when i try to play it again it doesnt recognize the CD drive, it says please insert privateer cd...is there any way i can just copy the cd to the computer so i dont have to use the cd?

Ah, ok, that makes sense then.
You obviously are missing a CD driver for DOS. If there was none shipped with your Drive try one of the generic ones found on the net (or the windows recovery disk IIRC).
As for copying to the HD - this should work. However you should first copy the CD to your HD and then install the game from there again IIRC (not having a CD version I am not 100% sure here)

Hey. I have the same problem as the person below.

Hey. I have the same problem as the person below. What do I do?

Look at one of the newer threads. You can't just run Privateer in Windows. It must be played in DOSBox.
