Running classic version of WC with MoSlo...

mpanty

Keen Commander
I am desperately trying to run the classic version (i.e. not from Kilrathi Saga) of Wing Commander I, with the program MoSlo... it just won't run to the desired speed!! :(

The MoSlo program does work, the "cinematic" sequences (like the intro with the instrument band, and each time there's a screen change, or when you talk to other pilots) ARE slowed down (quite too much, in effect), but the in-flight clock is still as fast as before (or at least too fast to be playable)!! The game is beyond control!

I have tried to run MoSlo at 1%, but apparently the shareware version of the program, does not work with Wing Commander below 15% or something.

If I am wrong in my procedure, or if you can help me, I would be grateful if you posted it here. Thanks! :)

Theres also a way of using SM2 (which has a frame rate adjuster) to run the original WC and SM1 missions.

1) have WC1, SM1 and SM2 installed into the same directory;

2) back up existing crusade.wld;

3) Run WC.exe, create a starting point for the game, ie in Enyo, call it START by saving in the barracks.;

4) copy savegame.wld to crusade.wld (or I guess rename it)

5) start SM2, awaken 'START' and your in Enyo.

Problems: wingman's faces gets messed up, ie Bossman replaced by Jazz (although story is same, dialogue is same); all aces are replaced by the Drakhai; Dralthi's are now the Dralthi Mk2.

Ehm ok... but WITHOUT having to do anything to command.com or autoexec.bat... is there a way to slow WC down?

(I'm using my residence computer from uni... eh eh... :D )

You don't do anything to command.com, mpanty :). You just kinda knock it over the head to make it slow down :D.

You really dont have to add anything to any of the bat or sys files at all, just place the moslo.com into the windows/command folder. Since the dos boot mode uses the windows/command files, it will automatically be in your path statement when the pc boots to dos mode, then just enter the moslo commands, example>>>[moslo /50 wc2.exe]

Wow... I came back to the thread, hoping for some useful advice, but this beats them all, Quarto! :)
I'm going to try that, and if it doesn't work, I'll try knocking you on the head as soon as I bring my ass over to Australia... <G>
(but don't worry, you don't have to loose sleep over it, Australia is not part of my destinations... YET! ;) )

Hi,

I've got now experience with WC1 and WC2, but I've just had a similar problem with Privateer 2. In that case Mo'Slo didn't work. The program that did work for my is called Slowdown. You can find it at:

If Mo'Slow doesn't exactly do the job you might want to try it.

good luck

Roel

P.S. I just looked at my post, the web reference doesn't come out right, you have to copy past it, to make it work.

Don't worry, I just fixed it :). With such complex links, it's better to put the [ur l] [/ur l] tags (without spaces) in yourself, rather than let the board take care of them.

Hum... I already tried that... I ran the proggie at 1 Mhz... in fact in ran it even together with MoSlo... still not slow enough... :(

Moreover, in KS the sounds are different... but hey thanks for the help.
Now that I have KS, the problem is not such a big deal anymore... Thing is, there are still people out there who have the problem I had... G'luck guys! :)
