Requesting Assistance with WCIII in Win2K

I've recently upgraded to a computer with a Pentium III prossessor running Windows 2000. Needless to say I'm having trouble installing and running Wing Commander III (Stand-Alone Version) on this machine. What can I do to fix this?

PS: Are there problems running the Kilrathi Saga version on the OS as well? If not, then I know how I can spend $100 wisely.

Well, no WC game was designed for Windows 2000. Prophecy has a patch for it, but that's about it. All WC games would probably require some level of tweaking in that OS. NTCompatible says WC3 DOS works, but KS doesn't. Some people have reported even if you do get it running in 2k, it can freeze.

Wing Commander III and IV runs really sweet without problems under VDM Sound.

It runs. - Yes.

without probs. - No: Examples: Probs with some USB Joysticks, clicking sound (at least for some users, like me - see here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=4218).

But nontheless VDM Sound is always worth a try
