Quite an Achievement (May 19, 2007)

Following good news with good, TeamXbox has posted a new preview of Wing Commander Arena. It gives descriptions for every game mode, talks about fighting 'bots and confirms what we've noticed in recent screenshots - that the game is a lot more polished than it was three months ago. Most importantly, it reveals for the first time all of the game's Achievements. For those unfamiliar with Xbox games, Achievements are special graphical awards unlocked for accomplishing various in-game feats, similar to winning medals in Wing Commander I... except everyone can view your accomplishments online!

Hot Dog: Complete each Ring Game difficulty level. (20 points)

Commando: Earned Commando Tattoo (15 Frags in a Melee Match). (10 points)

Dogfight: Shot down first pilot in an Xbox Live game. (10 points)

Ace: Defeat 5 ships in a Ranked Xbox Live match without respawning. (20 points)

Untouchable: Reach wave 10 in Gauntlet without ever taking damage to your hull. (20 points)

TCS Tiger’s Claw: Compete in a 16-player Capital Ship game. (10 points)

Hibernation: Reach a streak of 5 in a Bearpit game. (20 points)

Gunfighter: Win a Ranked Duel with each ship type. (20 points)

Navigator: Travel through every gold jump gate in the game. (10 points)

Retro: Reach wave 20 in Meteor Storm. (10 points)

Paladin: Shoot down 1000 pilots on Xbox Live. (30 points)

Deathstroke: Finish in first place in any Ranked Free-for-All match. (20 points)

What is this Ring Game they mention?

The ring game is the mini-game you can do while other people are fighting in the Bearpit... it involves flying through rings (similar to the X-Wing training missions, if you remember thatparticular cold hell)

X-Wing is what forever turned me against "time trial" missions in video games.

At the end of the day, though, I felt *excellent* after having won the four training ribbons.

sound like some very hard achievements.

Is that 1000 online kills total, or 1000 individual people? THe second could take a while to do...

That might be my favorite one. It's something that we'll all steadily be working towards as we play, and when people finally earn it, it'll be quite an accomplishment. Winning a ranked duel in each ship is a big one too. I'm anxious to start my spreadsheet file to keep track of my progress towards all these.
